Project -HELLO
Rationale:
This project allows you to first get to know others within your group and sharing ideas about your specialist areas through the design process. You are asked to work as a team and be resourceful with basic materials in a limited time.
Aim:
As you have now joined a specialist group you are now being asked to share ideas and blog things that are of interest to you and your group. Anything can go on the blog as long as it has some connection to your subject area and is of a professional interest that is relevant to art and design work that you have been doing.
To launch the blog and begin this process you have been given the task of making an image or collection of images that say- hello from your group and the college. These messages will also be used with the Tate galleries Turbinegeneration project to our linked school in Denmark.
Procedure
You have been given a series of window grids in the college to allow you to pin things up and also say hello from the blog in the real world! (Running alongside the Forum corridor)You will need to consider how to represent your area and yourselves in the most inventive and experimental way. Images can be playful, fun, humorous and show a range of techniques or media to represent your group’s skills as a whole.
We would like you to consider the format of the grids. Drawings, photographs, found imagery and text can be used to create an idea or general message without having to cram everything into one single composition.
You are asked to produce ideas of simple ways of saying Hello through methods such as creative using photography and text on yourselves, text on portraits, making structures and manipulating materials. You should produce visual sheets of working ideas thumbnail sketches that your team can debate and expand or investigate alternative concepts.
You will be divided into groups to work in and asked to generate ideas together, plan and allocate various tasks to each individual team member and then to produce and resolve a creative and experimental series of outcomes.
Try to communicate with visual language of your specialist area, the media and materials that might be used or some of the ways of experimental things that you might be involved in. You can use part of your previous work but you will need to negotiate amongst yourselves and allocate particular tasks so that you can all make a contribution.
You should consider who you are, perhaps reflecting Britishness by using humour to poke fun at the tea drinking; the traditional hand shack in the pin stripe suit or the many ways of say hello on the street! High five etc. What you like about your subject the tools and equipment photographed or drawn at different scales. The Fonts, mark making you like could be blown up create abstract imagery to balance composition. Images could go inside text saying hello. You could reflect regional dialects “Watcha.. Pet”, “Alright Ma Duck’, Sign language or even Shakespeare
